Global food insecurity is of ever increasing concern, and threatens to drive humanity into a devastating world food crisis. As the unfair trading systems that dominate today's world food game play themselves out and take their human toll before our very eyes, it is becoming more and more urgent that concrete actions be taken to protect those most at risk.

Farmers are faced with growing pressure to trade their traditional, sustainable farming methods for more costly and environmentally devastating methods proposed by the multinational biotechnology and chemical giants. Meanwhile, they often face growing debt and despair due to the low returns they can hope to make for their crops.

Fair Trade is an important part of the solution to world food insecurity, and ensuring the survival of agricultural producers is in fact ensuring the survival of humanity. In a world where so many of the very people that provide nourishment for our families can not even provide for the basic needs of their own, it is of growing importance that we act in soilidarity with farmers accross the world to build a brighter future.

As support for Fair Trade initiatives grows, so does the hope and inspiration for other producers to join the movement with new and innovative products. By choosing Fair Trade, we can truly create a better world where everyone is fed, children are free to play and learn, and the despair felt by so many farmers today becomes only a distant memory.
